Minty pi (v1 pcb) stopped working.

Post by Robochris » Mon Nov 27, 2017 11:50 am

It’s been a few months and never had a problem. Plugged it in to charge the other night, the next day it wouldn’t turn on.

It works fine when the pi is plugged directly in so I think I can narrow it down to the charger, battery, or switch.

I have a volt meter but I don’t know what to test.

Thoughts?

Also when the charger is plugged in, the done and charge leds are both on.

put the meter on DC voltage and without the power plugged in test the voltage of the battery at the JST pads where the battery wires are, if it's good then test voltage at the switch from the charger board goes to. If you have voltage then it's all goos but what is the voltage of the battery? Might be a bad charge board.

I had issues with a micro lipo like that on my first minty pi. It was bad and I replaced it with a tp4056...checking voltage like helder mentioned will help you narrow the problem.

If only someone could create a power troubleshooting guide..... Oh wait, there's one in my signature.

So I’m leaning towards a bad charger.
Both lights come on when plugged in and I get flat 0v when I test everything in dryja123 guide.

Maybe a question for hoolyhoo, or anyone really, when the pi is plugged directly into power, will the battery monitor still read the battery or just see that full power is coming in?

Thanks guys!

Yeah, so if you tested both legs on the battery and you're getting a flat 0v that tells me that the micro lipo is not charging the battery.

You either have a short, check your wires / solder on the lipo board, or the board is bad.

My recommendation would be pick up a 10 pack of the other charger boards. You can get them for around $5 or so a pack in the US. The other charging board will also charge your battery faster.

Thanks! That’s what I assumed but needed a second opinion. I’ll give it a go
