Testing the Board

Post by brodyhaymond » Fri Dec 22, 2017 7:47 pm

So my friend and I are creating 2 MintyPi's and have soldered the new blue boards and the Pi Zero W. We tested the connectivity and the screen is getting power with the multimeter. The board gets power, shows the green light while plugged in, but shows nothing on the screen. It doesn't show any difference on the screen as when it is powered off. We are wondering if anything is needed besides the USB power as shown in Wermy's video for testing, the soldering, ribbon connected and screen. We booted the same SD card in my Raspberry Pi 3 and it boots just fine with Wermy's ISO. Any suggestions? Pictures below.

Check continuity between all labelled gpio pins and their corresponding test pads (set multimeter to continuity mode). You need to have solid continuity on every labelled gpio for things to work properly.

I have found the ground is the hardest to get good continuity on.

Ground pads are very hard to solder. For ground pads i set the iron temp around 350 centigrade. As ground are connected to the whole surface, they are very difficult to heat and solder.
Sometimes they seem soldered, but in fact it’s a cold joint

We will have to test the ground pins. I tested both boards with a mini HDMI to normal on my TV, so the Image boots on the Pi Zero W as well. Strange thing though, it started the safety shutdown on one board while plugged into power but the other board didn't. And there wasn't the Sudomod logo screen on either of them. Not sure if that helps. Thanks for the suggestions! I will keep you posted.

I believe the sudomod logo will show up if you have the sound card attached. Once you conform continuity on all gpio/test pads I'm sure it will work.

Not sure why the safe shutdown would enable when plugged into direct power....
