USB Pads

Post by EC2017 » Sat Dec 30, 2017 8:40 pm

The USB pads for the sound card fell of of my raspberry pi. Is there any other place to connect the sound card?

That makes things tricky... you can solder on the other side of the pi. There are 5 tiny pins behind the plug. Just have to find the d+ and d-...Google will have a diagram likely.

Another option is to follow the traces on the back. Scrape the pi to expose some copper and solder to that. Then cover with glue to hold in place. Both are not easy for beginners

If there is room you can also get a usb shim. Plug it in, then solder to that... There is likely no room for that though.

I have personally performed the second fix on one pi before.

If the pads are falling off you are likely heating the pads too much, maybe lower the temp of your iron.

Are there any other places where I can connect the USB data +/- on the raspberry pi?

Just the places i've mentioned. See those lines coming from the USB pads in the pic below, if you scrape them you can find copper beneath, and solder to that. I think in a minty pi that might be the best option. If you were doing a GBZ and had more room i would reccomend just plugging a micro USB shim (or cable in) and using that instead. But like I mentioned before, not sure if there is enough room in a minty pi.

this is the other option I mentioned, I think I have the pins labelled properly, but best to double check, you'd wire data to the green and white arrows.

**EDITED IMAGE, this should be correct**
