Function button partially working

I added my function button but when it is pressed and you press any other button it does the function it is suppose to do but the original use for the button also works. For example when turning the battery indicator on or off it selects whatever the selector is on or when turning volume up it also scrolls to the right. Is this suppose to be this way or not!
