Speaker melted plastic

Post by Feynamn1 » Wed Apr 24, 2019 1:22 am

So this happened:

I tried restart the raspberry pi, but it kept recycling the process whenever it was set to load emulation station. But the speaker kept emitting a sound like boiling water from a teapot and the plastic strips covering it partially melted and is now stuck to the speaker itself. I only stopped it from melting completely by opening the tin and removing the battery. My first question is has anyone else run into this reboot problem? Also, is there a way to fix the faceplate without breaking the speaker?

Speaker or something else attached to the speaker shit the bed perhaps? These are cheap speakers and the reboot issue is the battery being low, did you get a fixed version of the Power Board?

Not really but I would remove the speaker and use another one.

It's not too bad and you can always get another face plate printed later.

Do you know of any other speakers that fit which are more reliable?

These are all the same ones we used on the mintyPi v1/v2 so anything 3mm thick and 23mm diameter will fit, mass produced usually ens up having some crap made and mixed in with the good ones. Try any other speaker to be sure the issue is the speaker though.
