ES settings reverting on boot

So I've got everything setup and running on my mintypi (thanks to Liltrublmaker for the actual build) but when I reboot all of my es settings revert. I select it to display the last player collection and favorites and those dissappear. If I select a different theme, on the next reboot it's back at the original one.

Any thoughts?

Sorry to ask and answer my own post but here's what got everything working again.

If you run this command from the terminal it will reset permissions

 sudo chown -R pi:pi /opt/retropie/configs
