USB Hub problem
USB Hub problem
Hello everyone
I've been working on my GBZ for a while
Screen, teensy, controllers, buttons, power.... everything works
But I cant seem to find what my problem is with my USB hub (it worked before I opened the hub)
I removed the USB kabel connected the green wire to pin 22 and white to pin 23.
The pw & gnd to my powerstrip.
I de-soldered a usb port so I can save space and connect my Teensy to it.
Made sure non of the cables touch each other.
When I connect my mouse it seems to get power but when I connect my keyboard it does noting...
I cant setup my buttons in Emulationstation if I can't fix my keyboard...
Realy don't know what I did wrong.
greetings

Re: USB Hub problem
Do I need to connect my USB hub to the power supply directly or the stripe I made is oké?
Because the LED on the Hub is burning but when I connected my usb mouse or keyboard I get notting.

'' it worked before I opened the hub ''
NL'er ? , Try another hub to test it out or remove it from the pi and connect it to the pc to confirm it works or not or something in the pi is messed up, as you stated it worked before you opened it up and after that you soldered just double check all connections with multimeter.

Re: USB Hub problem
Hi, I got the same problem. tested it on the PC and it worked. The hub is powered but the data transfer doesn't seem to work.
I just desoldered it and tested it again on the PC and it recognizes an USB stick.
I'm starting to think that the Pi Zero is the problem:( Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: USB Hub problem
Try to change the usb speed. now it's 2.0 i guess.. set it to usb 1.1
And yes the pi doesn't like all hubs, there's few that work.. but it can be different for example.. usb stick works fine on usb 1.1 but now most keyboards dont work on usb 1.1, now if you set it on 2.0 the keyboard works again but the usb stick does not.. it works but you have to change the config everytime, so the best would be to get a usb 1.1 setting and find a keyboard that works on usb 1.1. now you can use both usb storage, and keyboard.. also 2 extra gamepads will work fine too.. (on usb 1.1) it's not the best but this is probably the only thing you can do.
You should also twist the green and white wire that goes to the pi, twist it really good and tight. this helps alot.

Re: USB Hub problem
I've tried a lot of hubs and no problem (until you start cutting them
).
I also wanted as little soldering to the Pi as possible, so where I could I used the actual microUSB socket. I'd recommend that if you have space for that.

Hey Royalhighness
I have the same USB hub, just tried my old hub and it worked.
Now for my other build I am trying that USB hub again we both have just to find out what the problem is!
Ill keep you posted

Re: USB Hub problem
I fixed mine! I soldered it again and it worked, so I think there was a short circuit somewhere. I also took power from the powerstrip instead of directly from the Pi Zero.The_Jeste wrote:Hey Royalhighness

Re: USB Hub problem
You should ALWAYS connect 5v direct to the powerboost , NEVER to the PI, this causes the voltage to drop and thus not providing enough power to the hub.
That was your fault in this case. good you found out how to fix it.
