I want to remove the paint/plastic from the screen protection

Post by Valadone » Wed Feb 22, 2017 1:58 pm

Hi everyone,

I have a question :

I want to reuse the plastic of the screen protection. Everybody have one, but i want to remove the black part to cut the transparent screen to the tall of the screen.

https://www.amazon.fr/BW-num%C3%A9rique ... tft+screen

Someone tried to remove the paint/plastic with some chemical product and succeeded ?

thanks for your feedback :)

The better way is to buy a $2 plastic screen from Aliexpress for the gameboy and use acetone to remove the silkscreen. Very easy and good results.

I didn't know it was called "silkscreen". With some researches, i found that's very hard to remove is with chemicals or even mecanically ...

So i'll buy a little piece of plastic or the corning gorilla screen from a member here :)

Thanks

Actually, I have try. The result is not really good. But I think I can make it better next time.
First, I use diluted thinner (about 1:2) to wash out the painting. Be careful, the thinner will melt the plastic. I did once before.
Just wash the parts with painting. Dont touch the middle part.
Then, I use tamiya X20 thinner to wash the remaining painting. I am not sure if X20 can totally wash the painting. I will make a try.
After that, I try to brush it with Water Mill sandpaper (2000), but I don't recommand. I am not sure use 5000 Water Mill sandpaper will better.
Lastly, use metal polish to make it.

If fact, the old gameboy won't have a shinny plate as well. :D
Of course cutting a new plate is the best way, but i would like to keep as much as the original parts in it. I will try again.

I bought 1mm clear acrylic and cut it out of that, seems easier and nicer in the end. You can cut it with just a scalpel (I mean, it will take a few cuts, but it works)

I removed the silkscreen from my glass screen protector with Acetone and lots and lots of rubbing!

Acetone is the best way, you just have to put some work into it to start off and finish!
