Gameboy Color Control Board?

Post by dagormz » Thu Jun 29, 2017 9:30 am

Hello,

I am pretty new to this board but I plan to build my first gameboy zero very soon. I am going to purchase all of the parts this friday to make my own. I know I am being far-sighted but if this project goes well I really want to use a broken gameboy color I have laying around to make one for my brother (it was his when we were kids). Looking around it seems that all of the kits made are for the original gameboy. I understand this is for space requirements but after opening the system up I think I would be able to fit everything into it if I made a dummy game cartridge and put components inside of it (I'm not going to be too distraught if I cannot use the gamecard SD card thing. So down to the real question, I saw some threads on here about gameboy colors and they hack the original board in order to get the button controls. Is this the only way to do this with the color or does anyone offer a PCB control board for this model?

mods, sorry is this isn't allowed or isn't on the correct board. I'm new, don't hurt me

Yeah, I haven't seen any custom boards, but I have seen some posts like you mention that used the original button board.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! I think i'll look into it more after I finish my first build.
