Re: Custom ES Theme for 3.5" GBZ Screens

Just installed this theme on my Kite Build. So crisp and clean. Easy to read. Thanks!

And now for my feedback. ;)

2 things I see missing, but are probably a rare case. Doesn't appear that the "Arcade" system has been designed.
And second, I've created folders for collections of games within a system. Like I've made myself a "Favorites" folder, a folder of games I used to own, and a folder of the games that are included in the NES Classic Edition. While I've named those folder "01 Classic Edition" so that it will sticky to the top of the list, would be cool if there was some way to differentiate a folder vs game. The default theme changes the color of the text for folders slightly. But could be cool if an icon could be added before the text.

Just my thoughts. No big deal or deal breakers. Thanks for all the work you've put into this theme @RxBrad!

Adding a folder icon can be done by replacing the font with a custom font that has a character replaced with the icon. Then it's just a matter of using that character before your folder name. Also if you place a a space before the folder name, it will be at the top of the list.

@WoodMill

I can certainly add an Arcade theme. I'll try to get that done today, along with specific folders for all the MAME and CPS variants. I'll also take a look at the carbon theme and see if I can figure out how he did different coloring for folders vs files. While I'm at it, I'll see if I can find a font editor to take advantage of @HoolyHoo's folder icon idea (though that might take a little longer).

In the meantime, you may want to peruse this thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/113 ... ions-in-es

My theme already supports auto-allgames, auto-lastplayed, and auto-favorites -- you just need RetroPie updated to a version from the last week or two, when the Game Collection options were added to RetroPie.

While auto-favorites sounds close to what you're looking for, custom-collections sounds almost exactly like what you're after. The good news is that my theme is already set up to support it (as soon as it gets released by Retropie in the next few weeks).

@WoodMill

On both themes: Arcade/MAME themes added; folders are now highlighted; and added a folder icon

To get the folder icon to show up like below, the name needs to start with a space, followed by § (Alt-0167), followed by another space.

I get an error when trying to update.

"Error running 'git clone --recursive --depth 1 https://github.com/rxbrad/es-theme-gbz35-dark.git/
etc/emulationstation/themes/gbz35-dark' - returned 128

Tried uninstalling it, but won't reinstall.

I've also been running into lots of random issues with RetroPie-Setup since I updated it a couple days ago. I can usually kick it into working again with reboot.

Sounds like it's having issues copying files from GitHub to your Pi. You could also make sure your network connection is working okay.

It looks like an update to the esthemes menu in RetroPie-Setup was published about 23hrs ago. I just updated all packages on my Pi, and fiddled through the RetroPie-Setup menus for awhile, and it appears to have fixed the problems I'd been having. No more getting stuck on the menu asking me to uninstall/update gbz35-dark. No more being unable to install/update/uninstall themes.

Doh'p. You're right. I forgot to turn wifi back on. I was thinking that if it was showing the list of themes, it was pulling them in with an Internet connection.
