I have jp2 connectors for the power on each device (pi, usb hub, screen, audio amp). So I unplugged each one, one by one until it stopped doing that weird failure to boot. When I unplug the screen and boot up, it boots up normally. When the screen is plugged in, the blue led goes off when I try to turn on. I removed the kapton tape on the screen and wiggled everything around and rearranged the cables. Now it seems fine.

I think I'm going to have to remove these JP connectors though because it's making everything too thick. I can't quite make the shell completely close.
Oh. Yeah it's a tight fit in there, for sure. I'll definitely have to emphasize that people should check their connections several times before closing it up. :)

Damnit! It was definitely the screen. I just cracked it while screwing the shell down. I guess I forced it too much

Today was a bad day for my GBZ. I cracked two screens total and also corrupted a second micro SD card. Was rushing because one of these was suppose to be a bday gift for today. Lesson of the day: do not rush. Take plenty of care and time while building. Or it will cost you in the end.

@Popcorn
Sorry to hear that. I can relate how frustrating that was. I too had some share of bad luck and had to wait for a replacement before I can continue working on the project.

I was trying to get the Teensy to work with the octopus hub that I was using but for some reason, it is not being detected by the system but all other usb devices, i.e., USB DAC, external USB port, are working. Several soldering and de-soldering wires in the USB hub weakened the traces and got lifted together with the wire I was desoldering. I had to wait for the replacement usb hub.

No way, seriously? Check to see if it's the SD card first. I've corrupted two now. And the first initial feeling was that I did something to the the Pi itself.

Yes, sadly it is the Pi.
I though the same first, but put the SD Card into another RPi0 and it worked.
I also tried another SD Card in the "broken" Pi and it did not work.
No visible defects :|
I am just glad it is only a 5€ part and not my expensive display or something like that.
