I thought it was just some isolated incident but seems like it might be your problem too, and he used an external USB hub like you.
It think this is the Post you are talking about.
That sounds like a potential solution to me, I'll try it when I get home and report back on both post and I'll be sure to thank him as well.
Thanks guys!

It works fine when plugged in to the hub via micro USB cable but once I solder it to the hub it no longer reads it. I've checked and rechecked, desoldered and resolder, flipped white and greens around, nothing is working. I am not sure if I'm just not considering a possibility or just flat out missing something. Any suggestions?
Whoa guys I had this problem as well... I couldn't figure out why my Teensy wouldn't work after I desoldered it the first time. I found that if you plug a micro usb cable into the port on the Pi it would make the Teensy work again even after you unplugged it but I had to do that every time I desoldered the Teensy. The last time I desoldered it though nothing would make it work, even plugging in a micro USB. I was messing around looking over my solder connections and finally just decided to try and reflash RetroPie to the SD card and when it booted up it read the Teensy no problem. Was trying to get a cheap USB hub to work with my build, that's how I ran into this problem....
