Yeah I didn't think so which is why I said might. Thanks for confirming itjoeygbsn wrote:The pi zero has no fuses on the input. You do bypass the fuses on the bigger pis like the pi 3 if you power from gpio.

So basically no difference where you apply the 5v then

Why solder them to an area that may harm or destroy other components when the GPIO will do the job just as well and is intended to be soldered to?144TECH wrote:all this discussion about nothing.. omg.. you can just solder them ontop, right next to the usb port. i'm gonna quit this topic, lol

If you could use the gpio out of the box, everyone would solder the wires there my friend.
And he has to power it up first.. and you can't damage anything, these points are just as big as the solder pads, no risk nothing unless you are a amateur solder mcgyver.
And by the way a pi zero cost like 10 bucks, so i don't feel sorry about this.

But you can, and people (me for one) do! The only real reason not to, is that the USB is normally fused for protection. The zero isn't fused (as this discussion has shown) probably due to the size and price constraints144TECH wrote:If you could use the gpio out of the box, everyone would solder the wires there my friend.

You can power it from GPIO out of the box many projects use GPIO instead of the solder pads, not sure what you would need to do before using the GPIO. Soldering to the cap as you suggest could lift it as too much heat would heat the solder on both sides, GPIO is much easier and safer.144TECH wrote:If you could use the gpio out of the box, everyone would solder the wires there my friend.

Re: Help guys I've destroyed my pwr pad on the pi zero
Well, ok.. but it doesn't really matter, the spots i've shown are just as big as the pads on the bottom or gpio, so if you could solder that, the spot i meant would work to.
But if it was my pi zero, i'd snap it in two, and buy a new one. but luckely i don't mess solder pads haha.
