Maybe my screen is broken?
Does it power on at all? Can you see the backlight come on?

You definitely want to twist the ends of your wires before soldering them down, the end looks pretty frayed and if a strand of the red wire comes in contact with the black wire it's bad news.

The pads where you soldered those wires to look like they have a lot of solder on them too, to the point where I can't tell if they are touching -- probably should double check that they are not.

No, the screen doesn't power on. I checked the contacts, everything is ok and at the screen between red end black wire there are 5V.

Do you have anything non-conductive between the back of the screen and the control board? I assume that the screen backing is aluminum or steel and that's gonna short out any exposed pins on the back of the controller board if it's just sitting on top of it like that! At least stick a piece of paper between the two while you're testing...

Yes, the control board is glued on a soft mat or something. There is no contact.

It fits PERFECTLY... almost like it was made to fit inside a GameBoy. Check it out (this is without any modification other than removing the long screw posts):
What are you going to do about the screw post bracket? Especially with the cable in the way...

I figure I'll either:

1. Hotglue the posts and bracket right onto the display board, but that seems kind of messy and gross
2. Hope the that two screws in the battery compartment are enough to hold everything together
3. Fabricate some kind of snap/hook thing at the top out of styrene. You know how some plastic enclosures you'll have to hook one side together first, then bring the two halves together and screw at the other end? Something like that.

The third option seems like the cleanest way to do it, but also by far the most work. But, anything worth doing is worth doing well, right? We'll see if I still think that come three months from now and I'm still assembling this thing. heh

Having the same issue. I have the bw screen sold by e-life and mine is setup exactly like the pictures. Same problem. Should I post pics as well?

Maybe we need to mod it to run on 5v? Even thought this board has been confirmed to run without mod?

Guys with the dead screens: do you have any way to send it more volts and see if that helps? You could setup some AA batteries in series to get 6, 7.5 or 9V and see if that brings it to life...
