opinions on screens...

Its been a long while since ive looked into building from scratch, those are the most fun builds. anyways, my question is whats the best screen to compromise between quality and cost for a DMG build, so 3.5"?
Back in the day I used one of the BW screens but it had poor quality visuals.
Are SPI or IPS the way to go? how are those connected to Pis?
