USB audio issues

So I finished building my game boy zero and went with the USB dac option. Tested the audio on my android phone and it worked perfect. I then plugged it into the pi and followed chiz's guide for setting it as the default device. I then had the same issue as many people on that topic with the error "failed to find mixer elements" and no sound at all. I tried to follow the solution posted on it but had trouble with the instructions (still a novice with all of this). Is there something I may be missing or could someone help out with the solution! Fell free to ask any questions about the situation I may have missed! Thanks so much!! :D

I've built GBZ with USB-DAC and sound works ok.

DAC got from here:
http://www.banggood.com/5V-USB-Powered- ... 07182.html

Retropie (4.0) setup following this guide:
http://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=144#p1551

Only issue I got is when exiting Emulationstation I can see console message:
ALSA lib pcm.c:[...]:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred
but sound works good in menus and in games (tested in GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES games).
