A 9Volt Battery should work right? I will see what I have at work. Might have something outputting 9V.Cannikin wrote:Guys with the dead screens: do you have any way to send it more volts and see if that helps? You could setup some AA batteries in series to get 6, 7.5 or 9V and see if that brings it to life...

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute
Sooo. I just received my display today. Gonna crack it open, and test it all out on 5v and for video burn-in/flickers.
Before I do that, I'm looking at the spec sheet that it came with. It states that the resolution is 480x272! Did anyone try this res??

Popcorn:
I don't think that is the spec for the 3.5". If you look it also says you screen is 3.5"/4.3"/5.0" all at the same time? Also 4:3/16:9 at the same time?
The 480x272 sounds like a 16:9 aspect ration screen, maybe the 5.0" model.

The Us-vision screen from Amazon has arrived (one day late) and first impressions look pretty good.
5V doesn't work well with this display (lots of flickering), although it looks like it can be modified - I'll do a full write-up tonight (in Australian time).

I've got a 5" screen that can be switched to 4:3 or 16:9, so this does not mean it is not the one described.PeteB wrote:Popcorn:

But I too doubt that this one has this particular resolution.
Is there a way to be certain what the native resolution of a display is in debian?

Welp, never mind - LCD broke after trying to get the controller board off, even when it was heated up (a lot, the board was scorching hot). Time to get a new one...crispy_tofu wrote:The Us-vision screen from Amazon has arrived (one day late) and first impressions look pretty good.

I took the screen to work and checked it out. 5 Volts out. 5 Volts into the board for the screen. I tried a 9 Volt battery and no power to the screen. Board had power though. I am using a 5 volt 1 amp power supply. Should I use 2 amp or would that make a difference?

So i just got this interesting screen i ordered from eBay.de
from seller emarket666
Beware it comes from CN and took around 2.5 weeks :/
The screen you get IS NOT the screen that is on the eBay pictures,
it doesn't have the brightness/contrast buttons altho it seems you can hook some to the pcb.
The pcb is neat and small and it's back is interesting!
Check out the pics. I just opened it and took the pics, will probably hook it up this weekend but maybe someone has a similar one that they already tested? 3.3V? 5V? LED?

Works out of the box hooked to the 5V pin :]
And works wired to the 3v3 pin
So, electronics noob guess, using the display by powering it over the 3V3 it will consume considerably less power?
If so that would be great considering i'm planning a Rpi3 build.
