Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute
I bought the BW screen from US Amazon sold by e-life and it has the small board with a seperate contrast board attached via a cable. Seems good so far. Spent the time I had to work yesterday on getting it out of the screen and cleaning it up. Will hopefully test it tonight.

I wonder if we can use the 3.5 inch touch display for GBZ.
They're available at where I live with a surprisingly cheap price ($15).

I have an idea that using the extended or custom connect cable to connect that LCD to the Pi Zero, since they connecting via the GPIO so I think it might work without concerned about 12v input.
Since the ratio of this screen is not 4:3, do you guys think we can "downscale" this screen to 4:3 and might actually use the original GB screen protector glass like this guy did?

It ended up being $101.59 with shipping. I figured it would be a month before it got here, but I purchased it on 5/11 and it just arrived this morning (5/16) via DHL! It was packed extremely well and came out of the box in great shape.
Now the fun part! Video comparison of the Niceshopping screen from Amazon 320x240 (left) and this 640x480 screen on the right. Be sure to turn on 720p mode in YouTube player settings for full resolution action!

For me, I can't live with the 320x240 screen knowing that half the pixels are "gone." I want to see each and every one! Plus that halo around areas of sharp contrast on the 320 screen kills me.
If there's anything else people would like to see, let me know.
I just bought the same one on eBay. http://m.ebay.com/itm/221630482911?_mwBanner=1
But it says it's a VGA monitor. Will it also be able to do composite? I was told that in order for the screen to fit in the Gameboy with the Pi 0 it would have to be composite or HDMI. Let me know what you think, thanks!

Looks like it should work. If you look at the pictures, it does indeed have a composite input.Kcj101 wrote: I just bought the same one on eBay. http://m.ebay.com/itm/221630482911?_mwBanner=1

They tend to have 17fps, which is why we do not use themdboSS wrote:I wonder if we can use the 3.5 inch touch display for GBZ.

Yep, it has both VGA and composite inputs (it's the yellow plug that's kind of hidden underneath the white ribbon cable on the left):Kcj101 wrote:But it says it's a VGA monitor. Cannikin, how well does the screen fit? It does look like it is bigger.Cannikin wrote:Yep, it has both VGA and composite inputs (it's the yellow plug that's kind of hidden underneath the white ribbon cable on the left):Kcj101 wrote:But it says it's a VGA monitor. Fleder wrote:Thanks Cannikin! Really hlepful, especially the screens. I hope mine is as good as yours, or the 40€ were spent in vain.Cannikin wrote:(left and right don't seem to matter once you set top and bottom). I started with SNES and those settings fit it perfectly top to bottom. There's 1/8" of black on the left and right. I switched to every emulator I have (SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, NES, Atari 2600) and they all have the same fit—looks great!
If you have the single row headers form the essentials kit, I recommend soldering the wires to those and then just put the pins into the holes. This way you can always easily change anything until you are sure. If you solder it directly and you made a mistake, desoldering can be a pain.upy wrote:Can anybody help me? Don't have an idea how to connect this model to the RP0
Just cut those header pins with a knife or pliers.
@SP33 @Mad_Duke
Thanks for your information, i will update the spreadsheet accordingly.
For everyone who wants to get their hands on a 18,50€ 640x480 screen, hit me up if you are from DE, IT, ES or FR.
Okay, thank you.Cannikin wrote:See here: http://www.modmypi.com/blog/how-to-add- ... ry-pi-zeroupy wrote:Can anybody help me? Don't have an idea how to connect this model to the RP0
You don't even need the connectors they show if you just solder wires directly to the pins on the Pi and the controller board for your screen.
Hmm, don't know if i made a mistake. My screen don't work.
Maybe my screen is broken?
Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute
It fits PERFECTLY... almost like it was made to fit inside a GameBoy. Check it out (this is without any modification other than removing the long screw posts):80sRetro wrote:Cannikin, how well does the screen fit? It does look like it is bigger.
