Case - 10.5mm x 7mm x 1.7mm
Screen - 7.3mm x 5.5mm
Active area - Unknown (haven't been able to power it fully)

5v: Has to be determined if the screen can be modified.

I tore the case before I thought to just cut the wire. Anyway, That's the screen I purchased. I'm not sure how to, if at all, modify it to run off of 5v. As is, when I supply it with 5v, the screen goes from black (off) to a slightly lighter shade of black when on.

I hadn't seen this board on the Wiki, and it rarely comes up on the forums from what I can see.

The amazon seller: ATian Direct (US, was on Prime, im in Southern California if that matters)

The 5 volt regulator is the three legged pad right above the soldered wires. I initially soldered a red jumper wire from the power wire to the third prong:

This is NOT exactly what should be done, at least in my case it wasn't exactly correct. I got the screen to work, but it had a very delayed flicker:



You can see how I powered everything without a pi by looking a few posts back in this thread

Finally I made a thread in the project help area of the forum and someone suggested wiring the red wire DIRECTLY to the 5v regulator. This worked.

A simple request for those with a BW screen; what is the actual viewable area?
AKA what is the actual surface in mm * mm with activated pixels, not the part which stays black.
Trying to find out what the optimum silkscreen border width is.
Basically there's only 2 type of screens we use so far (with several controller boards but I'm not interested in those at all) and only have the most problematic of the two.

Screen extracted easily, worked instantly after being plugged to the pi without the power transformation.
The board has little ears, and was a bit too large for a Classic GB shell, so I had to cut it off.
Pictures to come asap.

I bought a BW screen with the variant 7 board and I was not able to modifiy the power and make it work.
I read that some other V7 owners got the same trouble with their screen.

Don't hesitate to show your pictures and also a link of the BW screen you bought.

I'm waiting on mine to confirm, but in reading the description and How-To document linked in the auction:

• It pulls power directly from a dedicated MicroUSB input and supplies the Pi through the header
• It gets image and sound data from HDMI (mini HDMI adapter required for the Pi Zero)
• It provides audio out via a headphone jack
• It has a GPIO connection for the touch interface that I'm assuming can be ignored/removed
• It includes a power switch, though I'm assuming it's not a safe shutdown switch
• It's only $25

The benefits seem pretty amazing, including pulling audio directly from HDMI on a zero and having passthrough 5v power natively.
