I'm waiting for my parts to arrive so i can start building my Game Boy Zero. While waiting, i've been looking at the show-off corner and i've seen a few people using the original 3.5 mm DC power socket instead of a micro USB for charging.
I think this is a much cleaner look. The micro USB doesn't fit quite so well in the case imo.
Is it possible to have this approach with aftermarket parts only, and how should it be done?
I've thought about buying one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pcs-3-5mm-D ... SwZVlXvwe8
Would i need to solder the DC jack straight to the PowerBoost and AIO, or would i have to wire it through a micro USB first?
Or is this approach not even possible/too difficult for a newbie like me?

Re: Aftermarket DC power socket instead of micro USB
I think it's more about portability. I can't think of a friend or family member who hasn't got a usb charger in their house. Using a DC socket may look better but means you have to take a charger everywhere in case it runs out of juice.
Re: Aftermarket DC power socket instead of micro USB
In my case, i can't imagine i would need to charge it at a friend or family members house (i only play when i'm alone or travelling). When travelling, i would just bring a DC-charger instead of a micro-USB charger. Not really a bother. I know a micro-USB charger would be more convenient. But i prefer the cleaner look of the game boy rather than convenience.beerman wrote:I think it's more about portability. But would you say that the DC socket is able to replace the micro USB quite easily?

Re: Aftermarket DC power socket instead of micro USB
yes, the socket doens't matter. You can take whatever you like..as long as you have the matching 5V power supply for it.
