advice on wiring of my x/y buttons

Post by jamesg2 » Thu Sep 29, 2016 10:11 am

Hi so i am modding a gba and all was going good all buttons wired and working until i realised there was not enough space for all the bits so i removed the centre green section of below main board

below is attached a "rough" pic of my wiring the yellow lines are the copper wire it is a set up the same as wermys original build so i assumed i needed to ground all the buttons a and b are linked than to the ground so both sides are linked?
my x and y are grounded the same as original.
when i plug it all in to test a/b/y and r2 all work but x does not respond?
so now im confused that one of my added buttons does not work? i was assuming its something to do with it all being linked but it looks like it is? i wired x and y and the show as one button but can not see why x is dead?
hopefully someone with better wiring knowledge than me can help.

Do you guys need a common ground pcb for this? Are you splitting the board in half?

Yer I've cut my board in half, was hoping running a wire from the ground on the buttons across to the other side would be enough to link up either side?

As long as GND is coming to both sides and going to the controller board it should work, check your soldering to the copper tape.

thanks, it is frustrating as it worked before i cut the board in half (did as there is not enough space) and even more frustrating as only one button dosnt work? but will look at changing copper tape and re-solder see if that helps, thanks!!
