USB File transfer with Helder's AIO *Update* No USB.
Finished my 2nd build with Helders AIO last night. At first I loaded plugged in my thumb drive to transfer my games to it. Then remembered that my thumb drive has about 2gigs worth of data, and the AIO uses USB 1. So I started over and only loaded the 30 games that are included with the Classic NES. Which is like 20mb.
After an hour, it was still working.
Im not for certain, but that seems pretty excessive. It took 10 minutes to transfer 2 gigs with usb 2 on my first build. Figured 20mb wouldn't take so long.
Is this a transfer speed issue? Or does it sound like there's something else here at fault?

Re: USB File transfer with Helper AIO
I tried to transfer around 6gb of data using a thumb drive but it didn't seem to work after the thumb drives led stopped flashing I restarted and no games had transferred so I assume my drive won't work with USB 1 speeds so I just used FTP to put my roms on the pi that was much quicker.WoodMill wrote:Finished my 2nd build with Helders AIO last night. Re: USB File transfer with Helper AIO
That was my next step. Still need to do some tests. Had some issues I couldn't figure out. Which may be related to USB. Had a weird issue where a wireless keyboard plugged into the USB port would work, but the gamepad wouldn't be recognized. But was hoping I could get a game on quickly to do a test before digging in and turning on that whole FTP backend stuff on the tiny screen.

2.2 boards are the same and wifi is definitely the best and fastest method to transfer files.chaosratt wrote:With the 1.4 board I found using a wifi dongle far more reliable than using a flash drive. I assume the 2.0 board will be similar.

Re: USB File transfer with Helder's AIO
Just to clarify, I had issues with flash drives when directly connected to the Pi anyway. Sometimes Retropie saw them, sometimes it didn't. However, Wifi worked always.

Re: USB File transfer with Helder's AIO
My USB problems seem to have escalated. I was randomly having this issue yesterday, but now it's been consistent.
I have 2 external usb ports. One I had a logitech wireless keyboard, the other the Edimax wifi dongle. The keyboard always worked in either USB port, but sometimes the wifi dongle lit up, and sometimes it did not. But was never able to find any wifi access points. Ive never had any issues with the Edimax working out of the box with any of my Rpi projects. But with the keyboard working, it ruled out a wiring issue between the ports.
But the consistent issue I have now is, no USB is working at all. That includes the gamepad. I have checked and even reflowed solder to the usb ports to and from the Rpi. I have tested continuity between the connections too, and haven't found any breaks or shorts.
So now what? What am I not thinking of? Could the USB have gone bad on the AIO? Or am I missing something?

Re: USB File transfer with Helder's AIO *Update* No USB.
I know I'm having a conversation with myself, but hoping something I say will spark someone else's thoughts.
I tested continuity between the 5v and Ground connections. My thought was that maybe the AIO wasn't getting power to power up the USB.
Nothing seems completely out of place. The Powerboost has proper connection to the powerstrip, and the powerstrip has connection to the USB hub.
But what what I found, and maybe this is common and I've never noticed it before in previous projects, is that there is just a little bit of continuity between 5V and Ground. It's not enough to make the beeper go off, but when I switch to the decimal value, it doesn't get to .000, but is showing like .100. Another connection at the other side of the case was showing .500.
So does this mean that somewhere I have a short with the 5V and Ground? Or is this normal, which I don't believe it should be.

Re: USB File transfer with Helder's AIO *Update* No USB.
On my GBZ the only thing i'm able to use with USB is the keyboard. Not edimax wifi, not usb to ethernet, not usb ROM transfer, just keyboard.
It's not really that big an issue for me since i'll just take the SD card out and load roms and make changes with a separate pi and then leave it inside the build forever when I get it fully working. Just wanted to confirm it isn't just you.

If the edimax wifi doesn't work, what does. Some people said they use it. Right now I'm kinda dead in the water. I have a fully built GBZ, but no way to get any games onto it. Wish Retro Pie wasn't a closed system, and allowed the roms to be transferred via the computer directly to the microsd card.
