New to this... Where to start?
I am looking to build my first GBZ and have no idea where to start. Looking for a fun project that is mobile since I'm hardly home. What are the recommendations to someone that's new to the GBZ world!

watch all the vids and decide if you want to do the first version or the second.
the second is easier but the main part the all in one board is hard/impossible to get (also the first build is more fun in my opinion!)
the wiki link below shows you all the parts you need (for build version 1) also some cheaper alternatives!

Is there a link for the 'second version'? Because I have basically been adapting the first version with whatever explaination I can find on the forums.

This is how I got started. My whole plan was to do it the original way, but the more I frequented this forum, the more I saw that some folks were making it easier. My first build ended up being a hybrid. You don't need an All in One Board. But you also don't need to use your original button PCB like the first option shows.Lpoolm wrote:watch all the vids and decide if you want to do the first version or the second.

If you really wanted to build one today, you could. No need to wait for parts from other users. I did get Helders latest AIO board, and really, it saved time, but wasn't as drastic as I thought it was going to be.
But watch the videos a few times. Get familiar with them. Then you can decide how to approach it.

Wermy's videos answer all of that. You can get a common ground PCB. Just search for Gameboy Zero on Amazon or Ebay. They won't have all the built in stuff, but you'll be able to breeze through that part of the build in Wermys video.

Re: New to this... Where to start?
I'm a noob too, and of course, i'm on my first project.
My first question was "how powerful do i want my GB project ?"
2 choices:
Pi 3:
+ can run PS1, Dreamcast, N64 audio output onboard. (Pi0 go up to 16bit 4th generation, SNES/megadrive and need an audio amp on GPIO or usb)
- the RPI3 need to be stripped, less place in the case => hard to use removable cartridge, if analog joystick => need to make it works with teensy or similar controller (Analog joystick is a must have for some games)
Better but Harder.
2nd step is to choose your controller PCB (some are very hard to get), take a look on ebay for custom boards.
Once you choose it, it will determinate your needs (audio, power) and available place in DMG case and you ll be able to choose next things to buy.

I think I'm going to go with the first build. Seems like there is a more detailed guide to it and I'm defiantly going to need it. Not too experienced with electronics. I need all the help I can get
