My screen problem still not fixed but I decided to move onto the last part of the project. This Game Boy projected been a mess and I feel like someone telling me to give up on this.

I was going to go with a Teensy but I didn't want to deal with USBs. So I bought a simple button board on EBay. At first I used wires with pins... didn't work. Then I cut off the pins and and twisted the wires... didn't work. Retropie says Gamepad not Detected, I tried holding a button down. Don't gets what wrong, I solder GND to GND on Pi and followed a diagram.

Any ideas before I give up? :?:

( Yes I know the wires are gross, my pillars coming in soon )

Update:After a week of late nights in the man cave, I found the problem. It wasn't the software or the Pi fault. The stupid common ground button board is defective. The common ground on the board doesn't reach the GND pin

Bet you I'll have another problem once I fix this problem. *fingers cross I fix the screen and everything can squeeze into the case

I don't know if you've done it since, but your wires in your pi could do with tidying up. Less length out of the underside, about 2mm total, and re-flow the joints with fresh solder. If your button board looks similar then you might need to re do that too. It's possible you broke the gnd pad from over working it...
