Keeping battery compartment intact

Just out of interest, with fewer parts if going the route of:-
Helders AIO
Safety shutdown switch
Volume pot
Cheap amazon screen with driver board
Wermys screw bracket
Low profile speaker
2 push buttons in screwhole

Is there enough room to leave the battery compartment intact so that the powerboost and battery can go in there?

depending on where you place the Raspberry Pi, you can get away with little or no modification to the battery compartment...

Cutting the battery compartment out with a Dremel is very satisfying work.

I didn't cut mine completely out, just a big hole through the side of the compartment to get the battery through a bit. But I have 4000mAh battery, so a bit bigger/thicker.

I attempted to leave mine intact but wanted the Pi to have the HDMI out so needed it as per Wermys build so i had to sacrifice the battery housing to allow for this.

I also found it was really tight between AIO board and the attached wires but i'd say its definitely possible.

Mat look to do so on my next build.

That said even before i cut it out, i had to carefully sand bits inside to allow the battery to fit. I guess it depends on the battery you use.

I didn't touch the battery compartment, instead i use 4 AA NI-MH batteries and a boost converter to power the pi zero... until now, everything fits, but it is a bit tight and usb audio is still missing. Only micro-usb output, no space for hdmi and others.

Thanks for all the replies. As I want to save my eyes and plug the gameboy into a monitor for when I have to edit text, I'll need to keep the hdmi port accessible.

Guess that means the compartment has to stay

On my most recent build, I just cut a small square in the corner of the battery compartment where the Pi sits when using it for HDMI.
