3D print the DMG case?
Hi there,
I'm wondering if anyone has tried 3D printing their own case for this project, rather than buying an old broken DMG or a shell from amazon, kitsch-bent, etc. I've scoured thingiverse and found all of adafruit's .stl files for their pigrrls, along with this one for a 'pi-boy' http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:469156 .
I'm wondering if anyone has found an .stl file that mimics the DMG case as closely as possible, more so than the link provided above. I'm asking because I'd be interested in printing out a dmg case using something like bamboofill for my next iteration of this project, so I could have a cool semi-wooden version of the DMG case.

Re: 3D print the DMG case?
What are you hoping to accomplish by 3D printing? Are you hoping to reconstruct the guts to have more room? If it is just to print another case, it is more cost effective to just buy one from one of the sources. They're relatively cheap and easy to get ahold of.petran1420 wrote:Hi there,

Sellers have it for $15 with enough guts to make it well worth it DMG Shell

Re: 3D print the DMG case?
I have 3D printed a case for a past project and it is cool to do, but as Kilren said it is not cost effective.

Yes, that is one goal. I believe it would save a lot of dremel time. But also like I said in my first post, I'd like to print using a unique material, like BambooFill https://learn.adafruit.com/3d-printing- ... t/overview, to print a unique case you can't get just by ordering a shell. I'm wondering if a DMG template exists in a .stl file that I could mess around with/modify, instead of trying to make one from scratch. Are you hoping to reconstruct the guts to have more room?
