USB Hub causing power failure?

Hello! The gbz I am making is the first I am trying to make. It is, really the first project like this I am making. Things were running smoothly in the build process until I installed the USB Hub. Whenever I hook up the usb hub's power cable to my powerstrip, or the pi itself's power, everything simply doesn't run. Before I hook up the usb hub to the power, it works fine, but as soon as it touches the 5v output on the powerstrip, nothing works. Here are some pictures to show what I mean:
Before attaching usb hub power:
While usb power is attached:
I am using the Targus usb hub which is shown in the original tutorial. Any help would be greatly apreciated

Sounds like there is definitely a short in your hub wiring. Your soldering needs to be cleaned up. Is that wire on PP23 touching ground? Looks like it in the picture. Also check hub connection soldering. Hard to see in picture but it looks suspect.

Agree with @hoolyhoo. There's a short somewhere. Ideally some photos from top down would help us see more clearly.
Might be worth resoldering pads, pins and doing your wiring if nothing is obvious.
The soldering and wiring on your powerboard also needs tidying as even if not now you'll run into problems down the line.

Thanks for the advice. I'm kind of new to the whole soldering thing so I greatly appreciate your help.

The PP23 wire was partially touching the ground, which I fixed. I desoldered and put in new wires for power and ground going from the hub to the powerstrip, but this did not help, I still have the problem.

What about the wires from the USB hub port itself? Did you resolder those? What about the other end of those wires, what is that connected to and what does it look like?

It's hard to tell from the pictures but yeah, my money is on a short somewhere as well. You should *really* have far less bare wire stripped/exposed. You only need 1-2mm. The less the better, really.

I turns out that it is my Teensy causing the problem. Before it worked fine, but now it does not and is causing the short.
