Hi Sudomod community,

i was starting my Gameboy Zero a few days ago. I finished the second part of the tutorial so i got the case prepared and the controls work fine too. Now i got myself a screen but it is not the adafruit one.

I got the screen on the right. But now i don't know if i have to modify the screen to run with 5V or ist it already usable for the project?
If i have to modify the screen, are there any guides/tutorials on how to do that?

I bought the same screen but haven't wired it yet. i plan to use this image and to solder the one extra connection.
I believe that picture was uploaded by the user Popcorn if I'm not mistaken. But definitely check the wiki to try and find information on your screen.

Try to power them with USB and you will know if they run on 5v out of the box.

Yep, that was me that added the jumper cable. I had a 6V charger and did an A/B test between that and the 5V from USB and when it was on the USB, there was some slight video phasing. It was very minor and most people could probably live with it without modding it, but I decided on adding the jumper. Now there's no phasing on USB 5V and works great.

You're model looks exactly the same as mine. If you use a knife to gently remove the double sided foam tape, the board has this written on the backside: (that way you know for sure)

MT_MAIN630A_35D_S4_V2.0 20151113

Make sure you have an active video source and at least 5V power or else your display will appear black/blank.

Also, lucky you. I didn't get the button daughter board with mine.

Oh, thank you for that hint. I will check what is written on the board tomorrow. If it is that easy to modify maybe that display is even a better choice than the adafruit one. Yeah the daughter board is also really helpful.

No, you can cut the end of an old usb cable and solder the wires to the cable that most of the time comes with the screen, then plug this into the screen and the usb cable into a sufficient power source like an active USB Hub or a Wall Charger.

I had the one on the left. :\ It seemed to run off of 5v without any modification, but I had an issue with mine where the screen blinked on and off in certain screen modes (some of the bootup screen, as well as the menu on Doom).
