Seeking advice about Wires and Audio

Hello everyone,

I have some doubts about the wires that can be used to build a Gameboy Zero project. In particular i have a lot of AWG 36 wires that came with my first raspberry pi 3 kit, but i am not sure if these can hold the Amp coming from the usb Hub. I've seen some awg 22 wires that may be quite good for the project, but i'm not sure.

Also, i have some doubts about the audio and its correspondent wiring. Little premise: i am not interested in stereo sound.
I have seen this female jack

and this mono audio amplifier:

I have some doubts about the amplifier, as i am not sure that it works fine with the other pieces (10k omh variable resistor and 26 mm speaker).
In case that the amplifier works fine for me, can i get some advices regarding the wiring of the audio circuit? I think i understood this part of the guide (video), but i am not sure on how to integrate the amp and how to unify the pins of the female jack to produce mono sound.

Thanks in advance for the help, you guys are awesome :D

Hey,

First of all i recommend 28awg. 36 is a little thin and 22 far too thick - In my opinion

28 should suit all your internal wiring, except maybe for pwm audio wires if you're going with pwm. I'd by some insulated wire just for that.

Ive built several GBZs and 28awg has worked fine, even for the USB hub.

As for the audio, your parts will work fine for mono sound. Essentially the jack and volume pot utilise ground, dual in (L + R) and dual out (L + R). Its called switch on the headphone jack however so just be sure to wire the corresponding 'switch out' of your input. E.g if you wire left channel in, also wire left switch out.

I think you're backwards on your gauges, the lower the gauge the thicker the core.

I use 22awg for main power delivery and ground. Stripped CAT5e works perfect for everything else.

You're quite right. I always confuse them! Will amend my post :)

Im not against 22awg but like you say, for main power and ground only. Too much of that inside the shell and you're not closing it anytime soon :D

Ok guys thanks for all the precious advices... This also saves me some money, as i have a ton of spare CAT5e :)
Just another thing: what is PMW? If i understood correctly, you are referring to something equivalent to this:

Do i need insulated wires while wiring my audio, or the CAT5e are fine?
