edit: One small question, is there another name for that multi-colored wire that you recommended and comes fused together? Tried these keywords with no luck under $5: colored wire, awg, colored wiring. I'll probably be fine with just the innards of a spare ethernet cord, but those do look handy and cool!

Try "rainbow wire", it's often quite expensive but you also get a lot (I paid around $7 for 5 meters of 20-wire cable)

If you search "ribbon cable" on amazon it brings up several hits. :)

For anyone in the US, this should be a bit less $$ after shipping and arrive sooner. It might be cheaper on ebay, but I didn't even look because I had to fill my amazon cart to get free shipping on something else.

@Wermy, where can I purchase the prototype board? Does it need to have the same design as the one you used? I'm only able to find ones that have difference patterns.
