We need one of these for the zero build too right? And we would have to break open the rubber casing of the cord so it's more flexible? Extender cables that i know of aren't super long but are long enough where it would have trouble maneuvering to where the zero would be and feels like they wouldn't connect unless we busted the wire out of the casing.

I just don't know how wermy gets his mini hdmi out of the contrast port.
Yes. The pi used hdmi and the pi zero has mini hdmi so you'll need a mini hdmi extender or since you're extending you might as well get a mini hdmi to hdmi cable and take it out the casing. One like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MU2YPXO/re ... pxbJY3S8AE

Hmm i'll see how the zero fits in the contrast area later and decide if i want a straight HDMI instead of using a converter. My pi zero came with mini hdmi to hdmi cable just like that anyway, but not having to carry it around is a plus of course but i don't mind since it would just go in the case with the finished GBZ. I know mini hdmi to hdmi converter dongles exist that are smaller and more direct than that but i'll look into it.

I have to say, chiz, when I first saw the end result of your new holes, I thought it had been cut by a laser... Impressive work!

You would plug one in the pi and the other end would extend to the side of the case. Also since you're using the pi 3 you'll also have to add a fan and some heat sinks to prevent overheating. You'll also need a more powerful battery and as far as I know the powerboost 1000c doesn't output enough current to charge the pi 3 while playing. Thought it would be worth mentioning before you get too deep in your project.
Hi!

Well. HDMI extender wouldn't be that big of a problem except as I've mentioned I only have lets say 15mm of space between the end of the HDMI and the case. And almost all of these
https://www.google.hr/search?q=hdmi+ext ... +to+female
are just too long.

I'm thinking about doing just the small adapter (smallest I can find) and drilling a hole where it comes up. It will be right next to the volume wheel (takes a part of it also) so I will need to find some use for the extra space by the connector. Was thinking about maybe putting a composite out (just to claim the extra space) and having a little switch between the internal composite and external (or driving both if it will be possible, but that's another story.

I don't need a fan. The Pi3 isn't that hot so a low profile passive block will be enough.

For the battery I'm going with
http://www.gearbest.com/power-banks/pp_230537.html

I'll not be using teensy but GPIO pins so this will fit right in after removing the battery case and modding the internals (as far as positioning goes). It fits right between the screw posts after removing the case (same as Raspberry Pi)
Image
This is of course just a sketch. I won't be having any cathridge loader but just simply have the USB-s and Eth. exposed outside.

Bear in mind that I also have on both sides almose all the way (except the screw posts and a speaker part) aroung 15mm on each side free also for the wires.

Basically, my biggest worry is the HDMI. Everything else I can buy just the header, stick it to the case and do my own wiring. With HDMI it's just too tiny and too many wires for me to do a breakout and solde by hand everything (because it can't be done with tiny wires because the HDMI wouldn't work basically).

This is the general ideao (back cover buttons I didn't put in the previous picture (my bad) but eveything is measured and should fit.

Will open my build topic after I get a few more parts in the mail (like this case because I'm testing all this on a half broken, shattered case at the moment). Sorry for "spamming".

10k mAh battery jesus O.O You'd have essentially all day battery life with that thing...i'm surprised there's even enough space for both that and a pi3!

I suppose choosing a pi3 makes doing hdmi/minihdmi quite awkward, but i see what you mean with the dongle not working. I can't really think of a solution but i hope it works out because the overall design is quite nice.

No worries, I see now what you mean. I can't think of a solution right off the bat but I'm happy to see you using the pi 3. I have a pi 3 that I fell in love with after running n64 Roms on but didn't give it a second thought mainly because of the power consumption. Now that I see there's a 10000mah battery this wouldn't be a problem if it fits. I'm very interested in your build. The gb would be perfect with a pi3. Can't wait to see what you come up with :D

Can't wait also!

If I think of a HDMI solution I'll ping it here also... But most probably I will be assembling the whole thing in a week or two and just leave the HDMI for the time being and then after everything is finished try and find a solution because I'll probably have to order online and wait a few weeks (probably going to need a specific part). I've jumped on your topic at the moment because I saw you are using a full Pi and was hoping you thought of a solution maybe :P

What about this one?

I didn't see if they specified the size, but it looks like it *should* fit. Might be just over or under, but you might be able to shave a tiny bit (there's some plastic that can go :) )

Thanks for the link. This one will be too long, maybe shaving helps. Don't mind if a clean connector itself (like on this one) protrudes a bit outside the case. I think I got to the point where I can admit to myself that next month I'll order probably 8 connectors and see which ones will work :) haha

This one is my favourite for now haha :D

Anyway. Opened my build topic. Just not to spam chiz's (sorry m8) :)

Sorry for the loooong silence guys. Was on a week-long summit in my day job. Didn't have much time to respond and didn't have the time to work on my build.

Thanks @NyaSu! :)

@Mad_Duke
No worries, man! :) Looking forward to your build! As for the battery... I also thought that a long battery can fit the case. However, you will lose the ability to open and close the battery cover as the battery cover lock tab will hit the battery. Unless you will have the cover fixed and non-removable, then you should be able to fit in that 10000mah battery in there.

As for the HDMI port. I did consider using an extender but I find them long and stiff that I thought of using HDMI male and female plugs that have solder points. This will allow me to use 28AWG wires which would be more flexible. Just waiting for these plugs to arrive.
