If your screen is 320 x 240 did you set that on config.txt to fix your resolution?BadBert wrote:Ok, i had some time today to muck around with the gbz.
I first wanted to setup usb audio... But the usb device does not show up in de lusb list
So i hope its a bad solder joint.
Ok... So no sound... Ill fix that later
So i went on to the wifi.
Dongle works, but i cant get it to connect to my network
I started a new topic for that problem
I hqve transfered nes roms via usb, but if i play a nes game it looks fuzzy and out of focus...

Re: BadBert's GBZ Build
Ok.... my thoughts to how to hook up the speaker were wrong (using stereo)..
so i looked at some diagrams of the headphone jack.... and all of a sudden it occured to me
so i hooked everything for the audio up once more, and YEAH!!!! SOUND!!!! ok... it was really faint, so i put in the amp, and damn! It worked
victory! hhahahahha
only thing that is not working now is the wifi.
screen resolution etc are good now. picture is nice enough

Re: BadBert's GBZ Build
Ok, forgot to mention:
Usb audio did not work because one solder pad came off completely.... so i did some research and found the pin of the audio chip, and soldered the wire directly on it (signal wire). That fixed it
Next problem i had was the wifi.... i could not get it to work. Not even when i edited different files with the info of my wifi network.
Yesterday i updated to RetroPie4, and did all configuration over again. With this, i could clearly see what buttons should be mapped to L and R, so fixed that
but.... with this, my wifi worked also! Don't know why.... but:

so i installed WinSCP, and connected to my GBZ, transferred some files, and removed some files from emulators that i won't use.
I remove the wifi dongle when i don't use it, because it causes interference on my audio
without it, sound is perfect.
So i'm almost done.
Things i want to do:
- add custom splash screen (from the forum)
- Glue the screen protector in place
- tweek the screen settings a little bit more (overscan, but also brightness etc)
And then i'll make some final pictures and make a small and simple video
In the future i'll add the safe shutdown (with low voltage indicator) to it, when it is for sale for the banggood powerboard.
i have an indicator for battery level, but that is for lifepo.... so the voltage is a bit off... but hey, it's better than nothing.

Re: BadBert's GBZ Build
Ok, so the lipo indicator (actually LIFEpo) does not work that good....
i found this now, and ordered a couple (1s version)
http://www.banggood.com/1-5S-Lipo-Batte ... otproducts
should work
3.6v is about 9% charge
I installed a custom splash screen, glued in my screen protector
and i played a bit.
Found that the speaker is giving crackling noises (have to replace that), and the buttons sometimes detect to much input....
so i have some things to do

Re: BadBert's GBZ Build
OK, today i fixed the problems i had with saving and loading games. That now works a charm
i love this forum and all the people here.... they helped me A LOT!!!!
Only thing i am searching for is a better speaker that i can fit, and shipping won't cost to much (that is the problem most of the time
)
but ok, it is now finisched and works great
got some minor dust and stuff between the screen protector and the screen.... but that is not visible when it is turned on
Some pictures of the finisched GBZ:

and i know... that screen protector really makes it look like it should... thanks @Dominator!
So the custom splash screen
I found it here on the forum!!
i don't have a video... sorry... but a couple of photos:

It looks cool
Only have to figure out why the raspberry logo is still visible during startup (had alterd the code to disable that), and after the splash screen is done, i get some command line text, but it's ok
so all booted up

and started up my favorite game:

(i think that will be the game i play most on the pre-ordered Mini-NES too
)
i am now in the process of slowly gathering all big parts again (i still have all the small parts like tactyle buttons, volume wheel, etc) so i can build one as a gift for my little "nintendo-fanboy" brother
only thing i will be adding is the Safe Schutdown for the banggood power module from @Camble
and that will also go inside my brothers gbz
The second build will be exactly the same as mine, so with a simple button pcb, teensy, amp etc. I like to build it that way

Re: BadBert's GBZ Build
You can just use a simple push switch to make a very easy and safe shutdown operation. Info here:
