My decade long GBZ build

Hi guys, this is something I've been wanting to do for well over a decade. It started out as wanting to build a full size arcade cabinet with an old computer, then it was build a desktop arcade cabinet with one of the original pi's, then it was build a handheld with an original pi, and now it's build GBZ.

I genuinely believe it's because of @Wermy and this forum that's finally got me off me arse to get it built. Seeing all your projects, and all the hard work you guys put into them has been inspiring. So, from the bottom of my heart, I love you guys, and no I swear, I having been drinking.

So let's get started.

I've ordered the bulk of the parts I need, now I'm just awaiting delivery.

Turns out a Game Boy is like a bus, you wait ages for one to turn up, then two turn up at once. I did a search on eBay for "Game Boy junk" and found these. I bid on the two of them at the same time, and I won both auctions! I think I'll turn one into a GBZ and the other into a GBZ-2 when the Zero 2 comes out. Total spend: €22.16

Hi! Nice project.

Could you include the links to the parts? Thanks!

Done, I edited the main post to add links to everything I bought. The Game Boys and USB sound card were won at auction, but everything else is a direct link.

Parts are starting to arrive, so I thought I'd get started on the build. I think I'm gonna start with the Game Boys. I wanted to try and repair one and use the other for the build. I don't intend to cover the repair here, but I'm cleaning and whitening both, so that's the only reason it's included.

Sorry, forgot to take pictures before I cleaned them. But it was just soapy water, so no big deal
Now, as I'm sure you're all aware, the sunshine sucks here in Ireland. I don't know what others here do, but I rigged up a Salon UV lamp for nails.

Made with cardboard, tinfoil and ducktape.

This was the MK1. The sides were only around 20mm high, parts got too hot too quick and the cream started to dry up.

I thought the MK1's problem might be a combination of the low height and the tin foil, so this inspired the MK2. It was 85mm high and no tinfoil, just white sides. It sucked, it didn't get hot, but it also didn't whiten anything either.

For the MK3, I lined the inside with tinfoil. results pending.
Do you think you'll be able to fit two of those batteries inside the battery compartment?
