Spykerwolf's build log - GBZ - custom parts

Post by Spykerwolf » Sun Jul 11, 2021 4:38 pm

Hey all! I'm completely new to this, but hoping I'd be able to build a GBZ with custom parts at the end.
Unfortunately I couldn't get an AIO board as shipping to NZ is pretty expensive, so most parts will be coming from aliexpress.
Please let me know if anyone spots something that I've obviously missed!

These are the parts I've ordered so far: To order/do:
Micro-SD card cartridge adaptor from prerunnerseth or aliexpress
USB ports from aliexpress
DS-Lite GBA cartridge readers from aliexpress
Cartridge label from Dominator or aliexpress
Aftermarket cartridge shell from kitsch-bent or aliexpress
3D-Printed screw bracket by wermy - Are there STL files available for these? I don't own a 3D printer, but maybe I can take it to a nearby shop or get it done online?
3D-Printed button wells by wermy - Are there STL files available for these? I don't own a 3D printer, but maybe I can take it to a nearby shop or get it done online?
JST battery extension cable from Adafruit
Ferrite beads potentially to stop RF radio interference - Unsure if needed?

GPIO PWM Audio for Raspberry Pi Zero
150 Ohm resistor, 270 Ohm resistor, 10nF capacitor, and a 33nF capacitor (another 10nF will work fine as well if that’s easier to find)

Good luck for your project!! I was thinking of doing a similar project with this kit: https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/32887767418.html, but I’m still pretty new here so I need to get some more tools.

For the 3d printed parts, check thingiverse. There is a TON of what you are looking for there

Don't know how I didn't see that kit when I was searching around, haha.
Maybe this will get you back into it?

Thanks so much! I found the required STL files from there. What a great site too!

Yeah I noticed that but I haven’t really used audio for my mintyPi I’ve built so it’s not that big of a problem for me.

Finally started the project :-)
Got the display, hooked it up via the USB GND & Video pins. Had a few glitching/lines across the screen so performed the 5V mod (even though this display should work without it). It's perfect now. Also started enlarging the display surround - still waiting on the lens protector so it looks a bit rough at the moment:

I built two with this aliexpress board. It works fine. As i dont need headphones i just soldered the amp to the pads and use hotkeys for the volume control.

All other parts are from aliexpress as well (3.2" spi display, power bank module like yours, glass screen, speaker, buttons etc. It is qute a simple build and even the pi3a fits easily.

Probabl y the cheapest bulild on here
