Update on the build! :)

Most of the parts arrived, so I managed to somewhat finish the project, I have a working unit, with some issues to solve.

Issues
  • Case is somewhat ugly, thanks to the lack of skill with the dremmel tool
  • Power switch is flaky, thanks to lack of desoldering skills. Also it works te other way around, because the other rail in the switch is damaged.
  • right shoulder button doesn't work.
  • the amp hums quite loud, also there should be a low pass filter included as well, to filter 20kHz+ frequencies.
Future improvements
  • Low battery simple led indicator
  • Better cartridge decal
  • map keys properly to avoid strange 2 deep emulation problems
  • hdmi out (though I am not a big fan)

I couldn't figure out the shoulder button issue. So I moved the witch to an other GPIO pin.
I managed to find the appropriate keys mapped, so now I can use PICO8 on this.

When closing the case, I made some serious mistake. I fitted the raspberry pi way too tight, and it seems I shorted out one of the data pins on the usb. After tearing the whole socket out, the problem persists, so I think I may have somehow squashed that connection into the internal ground plane...
There is really no cure for that, except for changing the pi. This will be the third in this project so, even with that inexpensive (In Hungary where I live, it is actually much more expensive, from pimoroni it is 8 GPB with shipping. If you buy it here from a shop it is double the price plus shipping) small computer it is a bit over the top.
I am not quite sure what to do, probably will just leave it there and start a whole new one, probably with a GBP...

Until then, here is a youtube video showing it working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87eqQqf8PfA
