Notorious ZERO
Hello everyone,
today i am finally starting my own build for my Gameboy Zero. I have most of the parts for some time already but had some real life issues that kept me away from it. As for information I am completely new to soldering and the mod/maker scene but extremely willing to learn. That said it means I will have LOTS of questions! Please bear with me!
roppopopoppom drum roffl
My build log!
Here you see i got myself the OG DMG case (a clone ofcourse).
But for some reason i never got myself a start/select button, whats with that!?
So to get te buttons i thought of buying two nes controllers to use tose buttons as i heard the start/select from the snes is different size?

Here is my gearbest screen. I chose this so that i knew i would be good with my choice maybe i still change it but for now this is okay.
Going to test it tonight, might need some help with this. Ofcourse going to search the forum first.
Okay i already got more and some things still shipping but this is a start. Will update it further today.
PS i am doing something wrong with the spoilers cant see what it is! Can someone show me how to do it correctly?

It's called a DMG Shell, or case or housing. Nobodys English is perfect, scholars have been complaining about laymen English usage since complaining was invented.TheNotorious wrote:haha i did not see that mistake. I know my use of english aint perfect but it is readable right?

To test the screen you can get power in your cars 12V, or you can have a bench powersupply. Or you can do one of the following mods.

Re: Notorious ZERO
So i tested the screen but it did not work.
There are a couple of things possible why it is not working.
Here you see method 1 of making it word on 5V. I wanted to try the seccond method but i did not completely understand what was going on there. So i used method 1. I think this went well for a first time solder job. (it took me something like a hour haha)
Here you see the completely connected gearbest scree (with the mod)
i connected the red pin (red and black) to an old USB cable just like sidsilver did. After that is connected the white and yellow pin to my Gamecube as the screen wont start up without a video source. Connected the usb cable to a transformer. But as you see no screen
Here you see the complete set up with my gamecube and the screen.
So it is possible the mod to 5V went wrong, or my soldering to the USB cable went wrong, the screen is broken or the way i wired it all wont work. Could someone take a look and see if they can find something?

Re: Notorious ZERO
The white and yellow cables are video only inputs, and the cables on the GC are video (yellow) and left and right audio (red and white). For the screen you have you only need to wire up one of the wires (either white or yellow on the screen) to the yellow plug of your GC.

Re: Notorious ZERO
Okay i did hook the yellow with the gc yellow and the white. It did not work so that aint the problem. Does enyone see a error in my soldering? Maybe its in there somewhere?
Or you Guy's think the screen is broken?
Thanks for the response bobrobert!

Re: Notorious ZERO
Sorry for answering too late. The second picture uses excessive solder to jump the 12v input to the 5v output of the voltage regulator. Effectively they are the same mod.TheNotorious wrote:Can someone explain me what exactly is the mod on the second picture? To test the screen you can get power in your cars 12V, or you can have a bench powersupply. Its either your power source, your video source or your soldering. We need a proper closeup picture of your soldering, we need to know how you get power and we need you to test the gamecube video output to a TVTheNotorious wrote:Okay i did hook the yellow with the gc yellow and the white.
