so... something brought me here, i liked it so looks like im hanging around awhile :)

after getting some old GB from various sources, refurbishing and repairing them, and me teaching my daughter about all things cool

Image

i made the decision to give a GBZ a go, having zero knowledge of Pi, retropi, aurdiono, programming its going to be a tough ride but on the plus side i can solder :)

after spending a small fortune parts have started to arrive, good job i order the pi zero a week ago as they are all out of stock since kites board came on sale

the parts arriving

thanks wermy for the 3d printed stuff and the super fast shipping to the UK :)

i've ordered kites board but have also ordered all the parts to make one so think i will properly end up with 2 or 3, still stuff to order but that is when it become available like a safe shutdown, helders Allinone board etc

took the screen apart this evening and bonus is its a small board,

Image

so i checked the wiki and converted to 5v after removing it carefully

Image

hopefully more stuff will be coming throughout the week so we should be able to get more done over the evenings

so with almost all the parts here, or at least enough to make a start i cracked on

i really wanted to get it all working outside the shell on a board so i could easily change, play and alter things when the dont work or need tweeking. i know im doubling the work and risk damaging the solder tabs but its one im willing to take

im pleased ive done it as the audio was a right pain in the backside but now have it working but am also going to try the usb audio option to see what is better

my usb hub only allow 1 thing at a time to work, ive tried everything on the site and others.. so am waiting on a new hub to arrive

but having said that i have a working thing that will play roms so im happy so far

Image

the case has also arrived

Image

so the next jobs are try the usb audio, and usb hub, connect to wifi etc and take the case to work to start to trim it to fit everything

Good to see I'm not the only one who resorts to a milling machine when it comes to putting holes in anything.

much more has happened

my GBP cartridge slots arrived so they were modded to fit and also wermys 3d printed parts needed a tweak to work with them also

Image

tactile switch mounted was made super simpl by this little thing i turned on the lathe to get them spot on central in the hole

Image

Image

the screen and the button board and speaker were put in place

Image

then the battery compartment had some more machine to take the screen buttones and the larger 3000mah battery

Image

Image

thats all for now but its good progress :)
