My Gameboy Zero *IN PROGRESS*

Hi everyone!


Just wanted to start sharing the progress on my gameboy zero I started on, I'm pretty much doing an exact copy of Wermy's complete aftermarket part build. Only difference is im using Helder's AIO board version 2.2.

Before I started this project I had never soldered anything im my life. But after reading through the forums here and seing all the cool projects I decided to give it a go.

So first thing I did was wire up the AIO board. My board came in good condition fourtanatley all I had to do was solder the joints of the headphone jack to the corresponding pads on the board which was easy enough. Like Wermy's tutorial im only going to be using 2 of the 3 USB hubs.

Next I started to modify the case! I felt a little ambitious so I chose a clear case, a lot of people tend to stay away from the clear cases I noticed because of the fact that you have to use hot glue to mount things inside the case. But I thought it would look cool regardless so decided to give it a try! So I made the necessary mods to the case (also my first time using a dremel, REALLY cool tool that I will be using in future projects). Only thing I did a little bit different is leave most of the battery comparment in tact and only cut out the top wall so my battery could fit. Not sure if this will be a problem later but I'll modify it later if need be, I also ended up drilling my X and Y holes a little closer together than I would have like but hey it works.

Next thing I did was take apart my back up screen (The BW brand). Mine ended up being a variant 7 version of the board, With the help of the wiki I was able to find out how to make it run off of 5 volts with a simple jumper wire.
Tested my screen and mounted it inside the case along with the screw button brackets I got from Wermy.

Unfourtanatley while I was soldering up the display driver board after testing it my sodlering iron just turned off and wont power back on soooo had to order another one . So i went ahead and screwed in the AIO board to the fron of the case along with buttons I chose from ebay (ice blue looks pretty sweet in the case). Love how Helder's AIO board is staring through the front of the case lol.

Well anyway im currently waiting on my new soldering iron so I can continue my project, I have finals for school this week anyway so we'll get there eventually. Let me know what you guys think or if you have any suggestions for me (this is my first project after all). Thanks!
