Hey everyone, I've learned so much through these forums and the internet. For something that about 3 weeks ago I thought was impossible to do, I'm very close to getting it all together! Thanks everyone on the forum for the help and tips. Without further ado, this is my progress:

Mounting the display temporarily and fitting the buttons from the back:

If you want the buttons to feel more clicky, make sure to add button wells, did not get a picture after I added them and too much of a pain to take now. IMO it's worth it for that authentic feel.



Wiring battery up with rest of the components (no audio yet):

The Lipo board connects to the GB power switch which is a hard reset when turned of (not sure how to do a soft one as of yet).
The main power is then transferred to a board that distributes power to the rest of the components.



Finally figured out the speaker + headphone audio problem. No potentionmeter as both the ones from the GB were very static sounding:

Components connected are Battery, Lipo board, Screen, RPi0, Teensy, USB Hub, USB DAC, Speaker, Headphone Jack. Was able to use the original GB headphone jack and make it so plugging in headphones would cut the speakers. Apparently the USB power is enough to power a 8ohm 1W speaker and it is fairly loud so I left out the amp.



Still working on the SD reader, External USB port, and potentionmeter hookup but other than that it's looking good! The wires are kind of a mess however. Would love some tips how to clean up the wiring, I tried to close it and sometimes I have problems with the USB Hub, probably due to interference.

@Robots86 So I used this picture as a reference:



I cut off most of the board and only left the area where the black housing was connected. Mixed L+R channels from the USB DAC to L+R on jack plus the ground to ground. The trick is that Switch A is connected to Switch B while no plug is connected but is disconnected when plugged in. This means you can cut signal to speakers if output is on A and if B is connected to L or R (or both). Switch B is connected to the ground however so you need to remove all the solder and isolate that point. Wire up L+R point to Switch B, wire Switch A to Speaker (+) and ground to Speaker (-) . Anyways here is a picture of what I did to get the switch working:



The orange wire connects the L+R point to Switch B which has been desoldered from the rest of the board.

Awesome post man yours is coming along really quickly. I ordered the same screen from Niceshopping and since @wermy said he would be using the ada fruit one. Would you mind showing how you connected it into the PI?

Hey, yes so these are the parts I used for the power supply:

Once opened you will see it is 2 parts, the LiPo charger board, and the battery. The one I had, the battery was welded onto the board by a metal strip and afaik that battery did not have a protection circuit. The LiPo board takes up to 2A at 5V and outputs 5V 1A so it's perfect for the project. From what I can see, it does seem to charge while drawing power. I ended up not using the battery b/c of no protection circuit, so I bought an Adafruit 2500mAh battery here:

If it's OoS, check mouser, they carry a lot of Adafruit products. Finally I wired up the LiPo board to a JST breakout board:

This way I can leave the board at the top where the charger connector is. I wired the (+) and (-) pads to the breakout board so it would be a flexible connector since space near the bottom is very crowded.
