Okay so I've made 4 GBZs now, two with Helders AIO 2.2 and two with simple button PCBs. (Links to 3 of these can be found in my signature).

While these have been really fun (at times stressful) i want a new challenge / build.

I missed the first run of @kite SAIO and was gutted, however had plenty on my plate with my other builds so signed up for his next Pre-order.

Needless to say the 2nd pre-order came around and due to the ongoing builds I was working on and money already spent i decided not to order.... .. hoping that when the time came something would pop up in the Buy/Sell forum......and well, it did! ;)

So here's an original pack from Kite and a printed out guide for pre reading!

This is as far as my 'build' goes, but ill be sure to update regularly with progress and photos.

Ive set aside a clear red case for this build and have the other required parts not included in this kit (aside from the Kapton tape that's on order), so im (nearly) all set.

So for now im off the flick the kettle and get reading...

That kit Kite put together is so professional!

EDIT: And that printed guide looks great too!

...patiently awaiting for my Kapton tape to arrive...!

Tried to buy some locally but it would appear there is a drought in Western Australia. Frustrating!

Build is finally back underway....!

What do they say? You wait hours for a bus then 2 come at once?!

Decided to start with the Pi itself....first things first, cutting the corner:

This was pretty easy and the Dremmel made light work of it.

Secondly, cutting pad23... was careful not to mess up! Used a fresh blade in my Stanley knife and cut away from the Pi as Kite suggests.

Followed up by soldering the pads and applying the long overdue Kapton:

A little late now and maybe Kite should change his guide, but it is not necessary to cut and risk damaging the USB pad. Merely applying the kapton tape over the ground pads will keep the solder from making contact. Looking forward to the rest of your build. :D

Thanks, mate. I did think to myself that maybe the tape would do the job by itself but didn't want to not do it and pay the price once the Pi is soldered down....

I'm sure it's posted in the forum somewhere and i'll be honest, i've hadn't looked to see if there have been any changes so i'll be sure to do that going forward.

Let's hope i havent killed the pad ;)

I'm sure its fine but it reduces the soldering surface area on that pad by at least half which is already tricky enough since the alignment is not straight on through Kites board (Done on purpose).
