Is it possible to get stereo sound using this screen and wiring it to a jack plug?
I'm only getting sound from the left channel when I do this.

you might even be able to scrap the amp....
and wire first up the the volume wheel
then to the headphone socket....
finallly wire up to speakers

Wired from the HDMI jack connection pads directly to another jack, pin 1, 2 and 5 only.

If I plugin a headphone directly into the HDMI screen jack I also only get mono sound.
Is that normal or do I need to change some config?

I do get stereo sound if the plug isn't inserted all the way in.

Otherwise only left channel.

is this on the screen itself

It's on the screen itself. I've tried with several different plugs and all the same result.
I did notice the jack connector on the screen is not completely level.

im a bit stumped.....
it should work perfectly from the screen.....

you could be unlucky and have a dodgy socket (there have been a few different varients of the screen flowing around)

one way of bypassing the socket is to wire from underneath, when you seperate the screen from the board you have access to the 3 points
Ground
Right
Left

its one way of eliminating if the socket is at fault....

I'm stumped as well. Removed the socket and wired to the 3 connections; same issue.

So it's either some configuration issue or I can try with another jack socket.

you can always just try a fresh install of retropie and see if that changes anything.....

i really didnt mess around with the audio setting within retropie, apart from the level of the volume....
you could always try selecting HDMI as default output (i'm not sure if i did that)

but i did edit the config (these shouldnt really affect the sound, but may be of some help)

I did a fresh install of RetroPie and updated my config.txt to match yours. No difference.

It might be a hardware problem after all as I do remember having stereo sound when first testing the screen.

For now I'm bridging the left channel to the right.
Thanks for your help!
