nice build....

you should really move this to a separate post.....

it may help others
(and they may want to ask you more about it)

there is a simpler way of soldering the wires directly (if that's the route you want to take)....
(i haven't shared this as this info is already available on the net)

I'm interested to see the simpler way of soldering the wires. Do you have a link?

Hey Vet. I’m waiting on my hdmi screen to arrive. How easy is it to de solder the parts? And if I decide not to are there other points you can solder from? Sorry if you covered this already. Im sure I have seen a post on it but can’t find it...

Hey veteran, have you had any experience with dpi screens? I’m just wondering you opinion between hdmi vs dpi.
I’m starting my fourth build and am going for a higher quality. Just wonder if you think dpi is worth the extra cost over hdmi.

a DPI is a good option....
and personally compared with a HDMI, I would opt for a DPI....
(only downside is the amount of GPIO it needs... nearly all)

the screens can be sourced fairly reasonably...
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-5inch ... 704aa828bd

but the boards are the issue.....

some members have designed their own boards and shared them (if you search the forum)....
heres an example (admittedly they are buried really well, so search is a pain)
https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... 3&start=10
(i think theres a couple more out there)
but this is a complete DIY route, and will be the most cost effective

tinkeyboy has one available ready to buy...
https://www.tinkerboy.xyz/product/tinke ... i-adapter/
personally i feel its way over priced (PLEASE this is just MHO, so no one get upset)
you could easily make your own for a lot less (and sell the extras, making it completely costless)
but to be fair, he has bothered to make it easily available to anyone that wants one (and doesnt want to do it DIY)

they are fairly easy to remove if you take some care....

the port and the switch will be the most tricky....
as you can be less careful with the GPIO connectors, the only thing you need to watch is just not to completely butcher them...

a tip (this is what i do)...
i snip (flush cutter) the leg of the ports and the switch first...
easier on the USB port than the switch due to the size (and the switch housing is a little more robust)

then just desolder the connections
add some fresh solder....
use a solder sucker or braid (both if need be)
add some flux (i've never used any)

what ever make it easier

I agree with you on the pricing of that board. I don’t mind at all making my own, that’s why I do these projects really lol. I just get a little lost when trying to follow that first link.

If anyone has links any other guides on making your own board or other options, please let me know.

Will this adafruit board work?
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1932

It seems inexpensive...

the board that adafruit have wont work with the LQ035NC111 LCD....
as the 3.5" LCD has a 54pin ribbon and so needs a 54pin connector....
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/For-CHI ... 679a904487

however, the adafruit board can be used with a PSP LCD (if you can think of a build to use it in)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/BI43WQV ... d28bc6ef1b
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0EGnydxxf4

as for the DIY route....
there are a couple of download links in the post....
one from Helder
https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... =20#p49273
and another from HoolyHoo
https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... =30#p49338
(both are pretty much the same, with just some tweaking to the designs)

it fairly straight forward....
download the zip files and extract....

you should have the design files as well as a list of the additional parts that are required (which need to be soldered on the board)

(have the board made from eiither Oshpark or any other PCB manufacturer, order the additional parts.... and put it all together)

but one thing to bear in mind....
if you just want one board....

then go for tinkerboy adapter
https://www.tinkerboy.xyz/product/tinke ... i-adapter/

its there for a reason...
for people that don't want the hassle of build/making their own (or dont have the tools/experience)....
and only really want one board....

as the cost of doing it DIY, is going to be in the ball park (if not more, possibly less) of the ready made solution
(but you will have more than one.... anything from 3 to 10)
