Any pictures of the attempt, it'd be really great to see how it looks!
Thanks for getting back to us all and telling us about your attempt.

I gave it a try last week on my UM3 extented, only the front half as the back half Sketchup file had the battery cover joined to the back case.

It came out ok, almost fits to a original back case half, but it seems 1mm larger and has some play. Maybe was my cheap PLA filament or cura settings not dialed in for it.

I'll have to give it another try using PVA supports this time, and print it facing up.
The joined parts issue has been fixed since. Well, at least I hope so. :D

It is possible that the 1mm difference is simply caused by me making a mistake in measuring or calculating. I cannot say for sure. :?

Anyways – thanks for giving the model a try. If you have any ideas what could be improved, please don't hesitate to post it here.

I'll check again the latest files to see if they are improved now.

Here is a video of the fit of the old version Sketchup file i printed (i think v48).

And some photos next to a original case.

Hey, that's cool – thanks for posting the pics and the video! :)

I am a little surprised that the printed model fits an original case that well! All the fillets and rounded corners were practically impossible to measure so I had to do a lot of guessing. I would not have been surprised to see a print not fit at all.

Looks great!

Anybody has an idea how to print it with good surface quality on the outside?
If I ask a 3D Print-Shop for this case what point I should take care of to get the Quality we need for this product?

Print with outside shell facing up with supports.

You could also get a laser SLA print. They are usually much better in surface quality (as the laser solidifies resin at a much higher resolution than a printer nozzle will achieve) but will most likely also cost you more.

Can't you use Acetone with PLA to give it a smooth finish~~?
