sudomod

So my DMG-01 died some 5 years ago and I've been meaning to resurrect it. Up until the pi zero w came out I was very skeptical about my skills of cramping everything into the DMG shell.

I messed up the bottom part of my original DMG so I ended up ordering a new one. The screen is GearBest which was rather easy to modify to work with 5v, sound is PWM with a low-pass filter and the L/R buttons are scavenged off a 3$ SNES controller. No USB hub, USB audio or teensy board, cartridge is only decorative.

Anyhow, after a several weeks of carefully poking at stuff this is what it finally came to be...
I did most of the fabrication by frankenstaining parts and I mostly used screws to keep things in place; hot glue gun was used sparingly. My first attempt at the L/R buttons were momentary tact switches which I quickly gave up on because they felt way too hard. I ended up taking SNES controller's shoulder button PCBs and silicone buttons. Another thing I used the SNES's shell was the X/Y button brackets.

Can you show a picture of the back with the snes pads ? i understand gthat you are using the pcb from the controller and the silicon pads also but what do you use to press the pad ?

Oh, I just press directly on the silicone. The side is ground flat from the inside and I used a countersink so the silicone pad lies directly on the plastic wall. It's sticking out enough on it's own and I don't feel the need to have any sort of pressure pad on it. Hopefully the pics show it better than I'm describing it.
