How much of this Optimizing section do you think still holds true with RetroPie 4.3? Are you going to do an update of this section for 4.3, that would be extremely helpful!

Last power consumption test
Testing conditions :
- brightness to medium
- sound at around 75%
- wifi disabled
- fan automatic (started to run after 45 minutes playing)
- overclocking (same parameters as above post)
Played Samurai Shodown 5 Special for 1 hour (lr-fbalpha)
Total consumption : 410mAh
This is definitely a good news. I was in « real » playing mode.
My power saving tips allows me to play at almost same current drain as a stock image but with added overclocking and added fan for cooling.

As for my build, i’m running 4.3.
Those optimizations applies to non Kite builds also. I’m dealing only with raspbian and raspberry pi, not kite’s scripts...
Anybody willing to save power whatever project he is doing, can use these tips ...
Of course if you don’t need logging for debugging purposes, if you don’t need HDMI, if you don’t need Bluetooth...

And Samurai Shodown 5 Special runs fine on a Pi Zero? Did it run before you overclocked it?

It runs laggy before and after overclocking. I use it because i know it is stressing a maximum the CPU lol.
With overclocking, the sound is less buggy but still chopping.
I’m gonna dig the lr-fbalpha paramters to see if i can do something. I have many games from Neo Geo that are lagging (SVC, Metal slug, Last Resort...) each is less or more than another one so i’m hopping than some fine tuning will help.
I can overclock main frequency of Pi also but i want it stock because with my setting, everything is synchronized (1000/500/500/500) if i start to put values like 1050, i’ll break the BUS synchronization and the extra power will not be noticied

The really not useful LEDS for the bling bling effect
I received today my pot to dim the LEDs i am about to add inside the build just for the bling bling effect, for the challenge and the fun
The pot is a 500Ohm and is only 4,83mmx5,03x3,73mm
It is intended to sit in the cartridge with the setting screw accessible to dim the LEDS
The testing is ok.
Now i need to sit these in the case in parallel, like 5 or 6 of them to make some cool shadow effects

Ok, i’ve started the addition of LEDs inside my build.
Thanks to Helder for providing the power strip
I want to add 8 super bright LEDs, the power strip will be VHB taped to the cartridge metal shielding.
I am using the provided USB extension cable delivered with the board that i won’t use and plug it to the inboard USB Hub to retrieve 5V.
I made a mistake as i have soldered the JST connector to the power strip but it must instead be soldered to the cartridge connector to power the pot, and from the pot, back to the power strip

I would be also interested in your pogo pin bracket STL as I want to go the same way.
What kind of pogo pins you are using? Which battery are you using? I think its the same as me with 4800 mAh.
I have designed the battery bay to fit Dextec`s battery as well as the Samsung one. Dextec`s Battery will have a connector in the bay to easily disconnect. Right now I still didnt select the right Pogo Bracket.
Im also using the SD-Card in the Cartridge so Im also interested how you wired all that stuff in with the Cartridge Reader and so on.
Since im not good with Linux I would be very thankful for an ready-to-use build for the SD-Card with all your tweaks.

Yes, i am using the Pi Zero W.
I will look for a way to make a script to automatically do my optimization or put them in a package or why not, integrate them in a full image. Didn’t dig yet in any way.
The SD Card is not yet connected as mentionned earlier, i’ll deal with this this weekend and post here the log
