YACSOB - Yet another Circuit Sword (Original) build :)

Hey there,

there are already a few posts that show how it looks to use the circuit sword for a build, so I am going to make it quick :)

Until it was running it took around 2 hours, another hour today to add the last missing pieces and make adjustments.
I also spent another hour trying to 3d print a few mini buttons for the back board - without success. The current substitute is OK but still doesnt look very nice.

Some noteworthy stuff:
- Used the hotglue trick from the wiki for the status led's - look really nice!
- Put the back button board higher up, easier to reach for me
- Added new mode button
- Added PSP analog stick

EDIT: Something I noticed: I wanted to use original SNES buttons, but they feel too soft/mushy. I added original gameboy buttons from 2 different gb's and it feels so much nicer.

EDIT2: Thanks to kite for his amazing work. I had a few of his previous boards and even got them to work at one point or another. But I abandoned previous attempts because there was still stuff that didn't work like I wanted it to work or something broke while tinkering. This kit is just brilliant. I am done...its perfect and just works Oo

Kite, now I want to go through the same process with the VMU ;)

Thats about it, here are the pics :)

I like the topic. :)

The Gb looks very nice. And yes, Kites boards are amazing. Can you post a picture of the buttons?

Which buttons? The back buttons? Those are just microswitches soldered to kites back board and accessible through some holes in the back. I glued some rubber button on them, you can see them in the 3. image.
I want to do something better, but while it looks horrible, it works really nice for now.

Sooo, apparently I do not learn.
I wrote that I tinkered too much and eventually break something.

So, what to do with the ugly back buttons? Sure, make it much worse =D

Here is a timelapse:
- find "cool" buttons
- remove old stuff and figure out that the holes are too close together
- make them bigger...apparently that somehow brings them further apart
- nope, now I have two giant holes
- make 4 new holes and use giant holes as ducts...
- install "cool" button and notice that they are entirely unusable
- take everything apart again and install some microswitches into the 4 new holes that are too big for microswitches
- drink glass of wine

and here in pictures:

EDIT:
And tomorrow I am going to make it even worse! I think I will remove the entire area that is now covered in holes to install a "window" cut from plexi glass or the metal mesh I used for the ducts and install kites board where it was supposed to go in the first place...

I printed Holyhoo's bracket without button wells on my CR10, came out perfect. And two button wells I found in the 3d printing section here.

Thanks. I meant the black border around the screen / glass in front of the screen. Which supplier did you go with?

OK, saved it....sort of.
Kites fan arrived today as well so I am just going to pretend that I always wanted to do it like this for the nice view and better cooling ;)
