Hello everyone!

I just completed my first GBZ. Prior to this, I’ve not had any experience in electronics, soldering, or code. I think it turned out ok. I definitely learned a lot, and I’m confident my next one will be better.

Parts used:
SpoilerShow
Raspberry Pi Zero W
Gearbest 3.5 inch TFT LCD Display
White DMG-01 case
Clear blue NES buttons
Clear blue DMG-01 buttons
Clear blue Gameboy cartridge
Sabrent USB sound adapter
Targus 4 port USB Hub
3.5mm stereo audio jack
5 pin wheel potentiometer
Digital power stereo amplifier
Micro USB port
GBZ glass screen cover
Adafruit Powerboost 1000c
Erik_Gee’s 6 button board
Teensy LC
Samsung BA96-05202A stereo speakers
6x6x9 tactile buttons
Adafruit 2500 mAh battery
Silicone coated wire
Wermy’s 3D printed parts
I originally started out with a BW screen but I couldn’t figure out how to convert it to 5v since it wasn’t on the Wiki. Then I ruined the second one. So THEN I figured I’d just get one that didn’t need modification. I also went through 2 raspberry pi’s. I lifted the TV pad on the first one.

I found it especially challenging to fit everything into the case. I had originally wanted to leave the battery compartment intact but I was forced to remove it since I couldn’t get the two halves closed. I also had wanted the SD card to be accessible in the contrast hole but I had to orient the pi vertically to get it to fit. The Gearbest screen board has some big capacitors on it that kinda got in the way. I can still access the SD through the battery area though so it’s I guess it’s ok.

I’m ok with the way it turned out. I don’t love it but ehh. I know my next one will be better. I managed to get one of Helder’s AIO boards from RGN, so I’m sure that will simplify things greatly.

I want to thank several people for their help (if they knew it or not lol). I want to thank VeteranGamer for his audio diagram of his SNES GBZ. It really helped me. I also want to thank erik_gee and GunZi for showing me how to get my teensy code working. And finally, thanks to everyone else in the community for inspiring me. ^_^

Cheers
