Re: Need soldering help
It could be a dirty surface or not enough heat. Apply some flux to the PCB and try again. Be careful with the heat though. It shouldn't take more than 3 seconds to apply the perfect amount of solder.
When in doubt, watch YouTube videos and ask questions here: http://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1984

Re: Need soldering help
I don't own any flux at the moment. Do you have any suggestions on what kind I should get? Like the paste, or liquid, or pen, or something else?dryja123 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2017 6:45 pmIt could be a dirty surface or not enough heat. Apply some flux to the PCB and try again. And as for the solder, what's written on the scroll of solder ?
And, where do you want to solder on the DMG board?
Maybe we could help you further, i don't think you need flux..
DO you have a picture of your soldering materials, and maybe also of the DMG where you want to solder to?
Thanks in advance, 144Tech

Re: Need soldering help
60W 110V soldering iron. But it has a little temperature dial on it and I usually keep it at about 400°C. But it's a sorta cheap soldering iron, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if those temps were inaccurate.144TECH wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 6:53 amHi, Dethoinas, how many watts is your soldering iron ?

I'm using the solder that came with the soldering iron, so I'm not sure what kind it is. I looked at the product's page that I bought it from and it says the diameter is 1mm and the melting point of the solder is 183°C.

Re: Need soldering help
That's good stuff. Flux will definitely help as that gameboy board is almost 30 years old.Dethoinas wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 6:36 pmI just bought this flux pen

Re: Need soldering help
Okay, well your sodering iron seems to be o.k , but the tip can be alot smaller (usually such irons are coming with alot of extra tips right?)
If so you could use the hoof shaped tip, and 400c is a little bit hot, maybe you burn up the flowing materials inside the core of the solder wire.
Make sure where you have to solder is clean, you can also use a glassfiber pen, that's like a little brush and you can scrape the pcb blank and clean to bare copper wich makes it alot easyer in certain cases.
However, i like how you try to make the button pcb from a dmg pcb, (i think that's what you are doing, correct me if i'm wrong)
But i would advice to get a nice common ground button pcb on ebay, they go for like 10-15 bucks.. saves alot of work.
Anyway good luck.
