Thinking of doing a 2nd build on the cheap (since I have a few parts left over from the last build) and I have a couple of questions:
1. Does anyone have a source of the Yellow, Blue, Red, Green buttons for A, B, X, Y. I can find sets in each color, but I don't really want to order 4 sets to get one of each color. I had ordered a SNES gamepad but the buttons are a little smaller than DMG buttons.
Ideally I'd like to find a kit where I can order the rubbers (incl start and select) and just the colored A B X Y buttons, I already have a left over power switch and D pad.
2. Top screw bracket and button wells, again anyone know of a cheap US source or are the 3D printer files freely available?
3. The Banggood power supply, is there any major drawback compared to the 1000C? From what I understand it remains constantly powered (the power switch goes between it and the power distribution strip) so it draws a constant small amount even when power is off, but does it still allow play and charge at the same time?
4. Does anyone have any suggestions on some super small 2 or 3 wire connectors, I'd like to keep the two halves of the case completely separable, on my current build I did this using pin headers and sockets, but they end up a bit bulk (can be 0.5"+ long). I was looking at some JST connectors (with the wires all ready on there) but I'm wondering if someone has something even smaller than that.
5. Any suggestions on colors? I was thinking White with the multicolor buttons, my last one was original cream with the standard red/pink buttons.

Re: Source of parts for 2nd build
1. I've used snes controllers before. They are a tad smaller but still work fine. I've seen sets on eBay. But the price is high. You could check aliexpress too. Here's two i did with snes buttons
2.i recommend hoolyhoos screen bracket. With buttons wells included. Buy from hoolyhoo, or download the stl and check 3d hubs. I can get it printed by a local guy on 3d hubs for about 8-10$
3.wasnt aware there was a constant draw in Power, where did you read that? I've used them all the time they work great. Only downside for me is no low battery indication. And yes you can charge and play.
4. I've used jst connectors. The ones I used are smaller than the typical ones you find on the adafruit powerboost. Check eBay for other sizes. I'm sure there are other alternative too.
5.i just did a teal one. It was nice. White is always a good choice.

Re: Source of parts for 2nd build
Thanks, I did buy a SNES controller but the buttons did appear to be close to 1mm smaller in diameter, I was really hoping to get something that fit a little better than that. I've tried emailing a few people but they wont split sets. Maybe I will just buy 4 sets and put together 3 others I can sell.
Great I'll see if I can find that bracket, its not a huge deal, I build my last one with now wells and the buttons feel fine.
I think its like a 180uA draw or something vs. the official 1000C that is like 20uA, I think I read it in the wiki or somewhere. But if I can play and charge that is what is important, hard to swallow $20 for a 1000C.
Thanks, I did find a packet of female and male JST connectors in the closet that I may just use, I will have to crimp my own wires but its nice to use what I already have.
I do like the clean look of white, just worried it will show every scuff.
Thanks.

i've just bought a SNES controller (official) for my next build and the buttons are perfect, if you've bought a cheap knock off then its gonna be off....jakejm79 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2017 11:02 pmThanks, I did buy a SNES controller but the buttons did appear to be close to 1mm smaller in diameter, I was really hoping to get something that fit a little better than that. (you can normally pick up a decent used controller for about the same price as buying 4 sets of button, and you'll have the right colours, instead of slightly off greens or yellows)

I've never used a powerboost in my builds, they just seem too much for for what they do (but they do have a low battery indicator)....
the generic power supplys (some call them banggood PSU) have been great for me, i used them in all my builds and there really low cost
https://www.banggood.com/37V-Liion-Batt ... rehouse=CN
https://www.banggood.com/3Pcs-5V-1A-Cha ... rehouse=CN
i've used JST connectors in a couple of my builds, and IMHO they can be more of a hindrance than a benefit....
you might not need to open your build once completed (havent really had to on mine)...
but they can get in the way when trying to close the case/shell
i'm using silicone wire in my next build, and just making sure i have the wire lengths where they need to be...
not sure what you mean by scuffs....
if you intend to throw your Gameboy about, then any case is going to scuff up (as there all made from a cheaper plastic than the originals)
and if your careful when building, you shouldnt get any scuff in the build process

Re: Source of parts for 2nd build
Thank you for the gamepad info, actually the gamepad I have is a USB aftermarket one, I bought it for another project, it does still look like even the official ones are smaller, tho probably negligible.
I ended up just ordered 4 sets in each color from aliexpress, I figure maybe I can offer up the other 3 combo sets, was less than $8 for all kits, I don't think I'd find an official SNES controller for that.
Also picked up one of those power supplies, DPDT switches, 3.5mm DC jacks (I plan to make use of the original charging hole) 3.5mm to USB cable and mini hdmi ribbon cable (I plan on using the volume slot to for use with a mini HDMI socket), S2 extended battery, speaker, some wire and with male/female JST connectors (I like to build things that can be taken apart even if the need wont really be there) and a couple of rubber membrane kits. Total (not counting the HDMI cable and connectors) was less than I'd pay for a powerboost 1000c, should definitely make this build a little more affordable.
Also ordered up a White shell. I guess I didn't mean scuffs so much just as dirt marks, if you have kids you'll understand that no bright white surface stays perfectly clean for too long.
Now to order up the I2S amp and Pi0W and what a month for everything to arrive from China.

if you look at Japan eBay, you'll find the famicom ones going really cheap.....
i got a controller delivered for less than $8 (the buttons in the image above)
there are also these that i've seen, but never look into them too much....
but they do say there meant for SNES controllers only
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SNES-CONTROLL ... 0005.m1851
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SNES-CONTROL ... 0005.m1851
both sellers have euro/jap and us colour varients
heres an example of a controller from japan (delivery took to the UK about 2 weeks)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-Famico ... Sw8lpZHTTj
but if you keep an eye on the auction listings, you'll get it cheaper (thats what i did)
