screen is so bright

Post by pajordan » Sun Mar 18, 2018 10:12 pm

i'm just starting a build and was testing out the screen yesterday - i have the BW Variant 7 and tried this mod to get it to power off 5V: https://www.sudomod.com/wiki/index.php? ... AG0115.jpg

then, using the cable that shipped with the screen, i soldered the power (red), ground (black), and video signal (yellow) to the pi zero pins pp1, pp6, and tv, respectively. after connecting power to the pi zero the screen came on but it's super bright. even if i use the screen menu options to reduce the brightness it's still way too bright and looks terrible - it's unusable in this state. if i try the other screen settings along with the brightness (contrast, color saturation), no combination looks good. any suggestions? looks almost like the backlight is too bright. here are some pics:

so, i have another screen (same kind) and another pi zero, and in following the same steps this screen actually looks fine. maybe the first screen is bad, or maybe i messed something up with the wiring? i'd like to get the first screen into a usable state. maybe i should start with redoing the screen mod? i'm just not sure which part of what i did could be causing the over-brightness.

here's a pic of the second screen with normal brightness for comparison:

maybe you should play wearing sunn glasses :D

sorry I could not hold my self, have you try sodering your red wire direclty to the resistor instead of making a bridge?

Try removing the IC and just soldering to pad 3 or at least just soldering the red wire to pin 3 and not to +12V input and pin 3.
